It was the bright packaging of Maybelline’s The Falsies Push Up Drama mascara (that’s a mouthful!) that caught my eye. Unable to resist the metallic hot pink and red tube I went ahead and bought it without conducting my usual pre-purchase research: Twitter poll’s, family enquiries and scouring beauty blogs. After all, my mascara back at home had dried out and I was in desperate need of a new one.
The Falsies Push Up Drama mascara is unique in that it’s brush is the first ever to feature cup-shaped bristles which Maybelline claims scoop and lift lashes. The Maybelline website promises volume, lift and drama, along with quotes like “Best for: When you don’t want to just arrive, but you want to make an entrance”.
Okay, let’s start with the good: My lashes look longer, more voluminous and slightly lifted as you might be able to see in the slightly blurry selfies below. As long as you apply this product quickly and don’t overload the lashes they will look great. I love my mascara as black as the night and this shade makes for very black lashes.
Now on to the not so good: The brush features short bristles. Nothing new there. Except these are cup-shaped. As we read earlier they are supposed to “scoop and lift lashes”. In my case though the cupped bristles seem to hold on to an excess of goopy product. Yes, goopy is the best way to describe this mascara that goes on sticky and never seems to fully dry. The only drama I’ve experienced from this mascara is whilst trying to pry my eye lashes apart hours after application by awkwardly blinking and I happen to catch the eye of a passer by in the process; “No, I’m not winking at you. I can’t even see you!”.
Maybelline delivered on it’s promises. I’ve experienced volume, lift and drama (although not the kind I expected) from The Falsies Push Up Drama, but I could do without the clump factor. Based on the stickiness of the formula I probably won’t be buying it again, which is a shame because I love the amount of volume it gives.
