“If only chocolate was healthy!” is normally what my internal monologue yells when I’m trying to pick out a snack at the supermarket. You see, I have a killer sweet tooth. I would eat chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could. In fact, I should be the definition of a chocoholic in the Oxford dictionary. So when I heard that Exante Diet will be releasing a coconut coconut flavoured chocolate bar that contains 30% of your RDA I just had to try them out!
Exante Diet kindly sent me a few of their products to sample (tiramisu pudding, chocolate pudding, honeycomb milkshake, strawberry cheesecake pudding… yum!) but I’m going to focus on their soon to be on sale chocolate coconut bars in this post.
Who are Exante Diet?
Exante Diet are a Cheshire based healthy eating and lifestyle company who specialise in meal replacement plans for those who want to lose or maintain a healthy weight. Each product is just 200 calories each and contains all of the vitamins and energy you need as part of a healthy lifestyle. They are currently running a campaign over on their site with X Factor winner Sam Bailey. Check out their blog for Sam’s weekly weigh-in’s.
What do Exante Diet Chocolate Coconut bars taste like?
During my first bite I have to admit, I was a little iffy. The chocolate tastes good, but the texture, which has a full, chewy, cakiness to it, wasn’t what I was expecting. I had anticipated a regular chocolate bar consistency. Light, melt-in-the-mouth, etc. Then I remembered that these bars are supposed to replace an entire meal, and the stodginess made sense. I took another bite and really started to get in to them. The coconut is subtle, and there is an almost salted caramel flavour going on in there. It’s a taste that I could easily get used to.
Did they help me eat less?
Exante Diet Chocolate Coconut bars are so filling! The first time I tried one I had half and had to pass the other half to my partner because I’d just eaten lunch. The next day I ate one for lunch and didn’t feel hungry for hours. I can definitely see myself replacing a meal a day with one of these bars. They’re perfect for when you’re in a rush, or for when you don’t want to leave your desk because you’re knee deep in work.
This may be a little bit TMI for some people. You have been warned!
These bars are high in fibre, and as a result, they (and the other meal replacements I tried) made me kinda gassy! Now, I’m not bothered by this at all, and I’m sure after a while the body would get used to the increase in fibre and everything would…quieten down… They have also helped “keep me regular” as my Nan would of said. I have tried other well known meal replacement plans in the past and they did the exact opposite of keeping me regular, so don’t be put off if you have had that experience with other brands. Just be sure to drink plenty of water (you should be doing this anyway though *wags finger*)
My experience with Exante Diet was a positive one. As someone who doesn’t enjoy being in the kitchen, the simplicity of mixing up a shake or eating a pre-made bar is appealing. I plan to buy more of these bars in the future to replace my breakfast or lunch time meals.
