If music is my religion (and it is!) then music venues are my place of worship. When I find myself in a new city one of the first things I’ll do is scour the local papers for venues to check out. If you’re a music fan heading to Norwich any time soon then you’re going to love this post. From big headline shows down to the smaller and more intimate musical experiences, Norwich has no shortage of fantastic live music venues. Here are the 5 must-visit venues from around the city with something to offer all you music lovers out there.

1. Norwich Arts Centre
Winner of NME’s Britain’s Best Small Music Venue Award in 2014, the Arts Centre is situated in the heart of the city centre within a renovated church. Oasis, Nirvana and Muse have all played the historic venue in their early days, making the 290 capacity centre a true haven for talent in the city. Before your show be sure to grab a drink at The Ten Bells, Norwich’s first gin distillery (opened 1700).

2. Rock on at The Waterfront
Norwich’s very own rock-orientated music venue! With capacity at 700, The Waterfront is located on the River Wensum and is renowned for playing host to some of the best emerging talent from the rock music scene in the UK and beyond. Don’t miss Reading rockers Sundara Karma as they bring their headline UK tour to The Waterfront on September 28th. Metalcore Aussie band The Amity Affliction are also heading to The Waterfront on December 10th as part of their UK winter tour for their fifth album ‘This Could Be Heartbreak’.
No one wants to rock out on an empty stomach, and with Norwich city centre just a short walk away (less than 10 minutes), why not grab a delicious bite to eat at Jamie’s Italian before your gig.
3. Forest Live at Thetford Forest
If it’s something outdoors you’re looking for, then head down to Thetford Forest this summer to see some of the nation’s favourite acts play a string special dates in Norfolk woodland. Just 30 minutes from Norwich, James Bay, Rudimental and Simply Red will be rocking the woods in a show like nothing else you will experience this summer. 4. The LCR
With a maximum capacity of just over 1,500, The LCR is Norwich’s primary location for the biggest and best touring bands and has hosted some of music’s most iconic acts over the years such as U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Coldplay.
Located at the University of East Anglia, just 3 miles from the city centre, it’s Norwich’s hub of the best music touring the nation. Rizzle Kicks, Toots and the Maytals and Gary Numan are just some of the wide range of acts that are still set to appear in 2016. 5. The Brickmakers
The award-winning music pub is one of the city’s best places to catch some of the best up-and-coming talent as well as some of the nation’s best cover bands and everything in between. Located a couple of miles from Norwich city centre, The Brickmakers holds a selection of weekly events including sessions night every Monday and open mic nights every Wednesday. Be sure to check this true music pub for an experience like no other.
